One Giant Leap for Mommykind

ethelnew

The healthcare reform bill that passed yesterday included VERY important, but mostly overlooked, language advocating for moms suffering from postpartum depression. Take a look at my write-up for OC Family.

From page to stage…

blogupCome on down and watch some of us bloggers get out from behind the keyboard and get on stage. And the audience is encouraged to bring drinks (read: Pam’s liquid courage) in a thermos or whatever, or as we call it at my house, “mommy’s sippy cup.”

It’s sort of a page-to-stage idea and should be fun. We could all use the support!!! Please RSVP here on Facebook.

See you there!

i carry your heart with me

lucydog

It’s been said that becoming a mother is like wearing your heart outside your body. Man, is that true. And my heart is turning two. My little Lucy, it’s amazing how much you have changed me. I tried to think of something profound to write. But the perfect words already exist. It’s my all-time favorite by e.e. cummings. And today, on your second birthday, I dedicate it to you:

i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,  my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

~ e.e. cummings

P.S.
I know, I know. The punctuation, capitalization and formatting are weird. It’s supposed to be that way. And it makes it awesome.

The person nerdier than Pam

Sorry for the delay. I won’t bother you with a long story about where I’ve been. But here is it in short phrases: anniversary, toddler sick, urgent care, mommy sick, baby sick, urgent care, RSV, pediatrician visit, awful breathing treatments for baby, sleep. We aren’t all better, but we are fakin’ it till we make it!

The winner of the word nerd challenge is Emily Comstock (a fellow writer) followed VERY closely by my brother Chris <insert tear of joy and pride since he isn’t really a writer.>But the sucky part for Chris is that there can be only one winner. It makes me extra happy to know she’ll love her prize* The Grammar Devotional: Daily Tips for Successful Writing from Grammar Girl. It’s like a daily grammar vitamin. It’s one of my all-time faves.

Because I know it’s keeping you up at night, here are the answers to the quiz.

*I am giving this book away, out of my own pocket, since I adore Grammar Girl. I wish I knew her and could talk her into giving me free stuff to give away on my blog. So if you are reading this, Ms. Fogarty, you owe me $12.

Word Nerd Answers, Not Really

So don’t hate me, but I haven’t “graded” your quizzes yet. It’s our anniversary and I HAVE (insert eye roll) to hang out with my handsome husband.  Girl Scout Promise I’ll post answers, and contact the winner, tomorrow.  Thanks to everyone that played. Getting others excited about grammar gets me excited!
